Quins storm to victory over lacklustre Cork County
Irish Examiner - 1st June 2004 - By Sean Power
John Rolph's Harlequins team stormed to a fine win over arch-rivals Cork County in this important Munster Senior Cricket encounter last weekend.
Their 41-run win was Quins just reward for a great team performance as they outplayed a fancied but lacklustre opposition which is expected to form the broad nucleus of the Munster Reds team that will compete in the Leinster Senior League. Indeed, the Cork County performances in the past fortnight have given the Munster selectors a major headache.
Harlequins had the first use of the wicket, and openers Cormac Wilcox (39) and Bruce Koch (54) made excellent scores. Quinton Claassen rode in with a steely 41, and Darryl Moiser also held sway as Cork County's bowlers toiled.
The notable exception was Mike Reid, who took three for 45.
Having strike bowler Keith Banks open the Cork County innings with Ted Williamson, while strange, was highly successful. His 52 was the only score of note, backed up by Gomez's 28 and Cory Atkinson's 21. Sterling work by Quins attack pinned down the Cork County batsmen.
Harlequins paid back in spades what they had suffered in the Mardyke a few weeks back and the win throws the destination of the Munster League title wide open.
