Harlequins Cricket Match Report
Munster Division 3
Harlequins 3 beat Cork County 3 by 50 runs
Played at Farmers Cross, Saturday 15th May 2004
This was the first outing of the season for the Harlequins 3rd XI. A glorious early summer's day saw a very good game of cricket, played in the right sprit. Harlequins batted first and were quickly in trouble, loosing their first 3 wickets cheaply. Jim Burfield, put in at number 3 with the bat in his hand for the first time since September, duely was bowled for a duck. Jack Russell steadied the ship with a fine 28, and then Rob Jenkins, playing his first Munster league match for three years, hit an explosive 62 including five sixes. Mike Gibson, making his Quins debut made a very steady and useful 18. Quins finished on 161 all out. The pick of the County bowlers was Sommerfield (5.4 - 1 - 3 - 13)
The County reply was steady and runs kept flowing, but wickets kept falling. The Quins man of the match, Carus Benson, took 3 for 42 off his 8 overs, together with a fine catch. In the end, Cork County fell 50 runs short and were 111 all out. Dillon Martin also bowled well picking up 2 wickets, Jim Burfield took one, Dessie O'Leary executed a fine run out, and Robin Russell and Mikelle Delport also picked up one a piece.
