Harlequins Cricket Match Report

Munster Senior Shield

Limerick beat Harlequins by 9 wickets

Played at Farmers Cross on Saturday 9th August 2003

Due to nearly 15 members being unavailable for this match, the Harlequins team for this Senior Shield match was a mixture of 1sts, 2nds and 3rds. The result? A thumping by a very solid senior Limerick side.

Richard Gash, Rick, Eamonn, and Rogan were the only members of the first choice 1st XI playing, and none, apart from Richard (scoring 21), made double figures when Harlequins were put into bat first by Limerick. Jim Burfield, usually a Junior (2nd XI) player, was the only other player to score double figues with 13...enough said - 'Quins were all out for 73.

Any faint hope of a victory vanished rapidly when two dolly catches were dropped in the third over of the Limerick innings by Andy Whitaker and Donovan Gee, off the bowling of Richard Gash. Donovan later redeemed himself somewhat with a very tight spell of bowling to slow the inevitable Limerick victory. The only Limerick wicket of the day to fall was that of Shani, who was well caught off the bowling of Richard Gash in the gully by Jim Burfield. Limerick took just 16 overs to reach their required 74, and in the process made the Quins batting look what it was - awful.
