Munster Division 1
Harlequins 1
224 all out
Midleton 1
234 for 7
Scoring Notes: R. Gash 111, D. Moyser 59, E. Hearne 2-46
Harlequins lost to Midleton in a closely contested match at Harlequins.
Harlequins were in the field for the first innings and some tight bowling from Harlequins openers Quinton B. Classen and Eamonn Hearne restricted the visitors to 50 runs for 3 wickets from the first 25 overs. How the visitors managed to reach 234 from this position is anybody's guess?
Some solid, resilient batting from R.Smyth (66) and Midleton captain D.Wilson(70*), combined with some very poor bowling from Harlequins change bowlers saw Midleton set a daunting target for an under strength Harlequins side.
Openers Richard Gash and Daryl Moyser made a very solid start for Quins with Moyser making 50 in quick time. Their hundred partnership was soon broken as Moyser was clean bowled for 59.
With wickets falling at one end, Gash continued to annoy the Midleton attack and was soon rewarded with his first century of the season, and aided by a quick fire 23 from Donovan Gee put Quins in a dominant position to win the match.
With only 20 runs needed Midleton picked up the wicket they wanted clean bowling Gash for 111.
Unfortunately for quins, despite having 10 overs left and 3 wickets remaining to get 20 runs, the tail enders could not complete the task. A disappointing end leaving Quins 10 runs short.
Quins will need to work hard on their line and length in their bowling and protecting their wickets in the weeks to come if they are to avoid finishing bottom of Division 1 this season.
