Harlequins Mens Hockey Match Report
Harlequins(C) 2 - C of I (C) 5
Munster Division 2
Saturday 22nd January 2005
Scorers: D. Gash, D. Deady
On Sunday 30 January 'Quins 'C' were defeated 5-2 by C of I 'C' in
Harlequins. C of I took advantage of the break in Division 1 and fielded a
very strong team. 'Quins were without the services of Dave Harte, due to the
firsts trip to Canterbury, so Jonathon Daunt stood between the posts.
The game was delayed by a half-hour as the preceeding ladies game went into
extra-time. When the game did get under way, it was an even affair for the
first 10 minutes, with each side exchanging attacks. But it was C of I who
broke the deadlock and took control of the game. After more pressure C of I
made it 2-0 and remained on top until the interval.
Quins started the second half strong and had numerous attacks. They soon
grabbed a goal back when a crash ball from Kevin Cullinane was turned home
with a clever touch from Dave Gash at the near post. It wasn't long before
the teams were once again level when Dave Deady scored a close range reverse
stick shot from the ground to make it 2-2. C of I overcame the pressure and
their senior players stepped their play up a gear and worked quins very hard
for the final 20 minutes of the match. Some poor marking and sloppy passing
allowed in to C of I finish the game the game off with three goals in quick
succession. If it had not been for some outstanding saves by the 'Quins
deputising keeper the score may well have been higher. Skinty watch your
back, your brother's coming for your spot!
