Harlequins Mens Hockey Match Report
Harlequins(B) 2 - Pembroke Wanderers(B) 1
Irish Junior Cup (Quarter Final)
Saturday 22nd January 2005
Scorers: G. Todd, P. Dawson
Quins seconds produced a very spirited performance against Pembroke seconds to win this IJC quarter final tie by 2 goals to 1. Quins began the game very strongly & took the game to Pembroke from the start. However, despite creating numerous opportunities Quins failed to open the scoring. A lot of credit must go to the Pembroke backline & the goalkeeper in particular who made a number of very fine saves. Quins had a number of corners & everything hit the target.
In the second half Pembroke came more into the game & began to ask some very searching questions. With about 15 minutes remaining the umpire penalised a Quins defender for a foul in the circle & awarded Pembroke a penalty stroke. M. Tijs despatched the stroke with aplomb. Time was the real enemy at this stage & Quins threw everything into attack. 5 minutes from time Conor Harte's drag flick from a corner was well saved by the keeper but Graham Todd pounced on the rebound to score the equaliser. 3 minutes later Stephen Teap attacked from the right hand side & was fouled in the circle. From the resulting corner a well worked switch ended with an excellent finish from close range by Paul Dawson. Quins tried to play out time in the Pembroke half but still had to face a corner before the finish. Skinty reacted well to the corner & made a fine save.
