Midleton(A) 0 - Harlequins(B) 3
Munster Junior Cup (Semi-Final)
Saturday 5th January 2005
Scorers: R. Leonard, K. Deasy, P. McLaughlin
After a disappointing defeat on the previous day, Quins II got back to winning
ways with a defeat of Midleton in the Munster Junior Cup semi-final. Short
quite a number of players, a tough challenge was expected, but a good first
half performance laid the foundations for a comfortable victory.
Things didn't start well for Quins when Brian Hayes-Curtin had to go off injured
after only 5 minutes. But even though Midleton threatened occasionally with
Clive Seale, Quins were on top and the first goal arrived when a Rob Hobbs
free-hit was deflected into the top corner by Richard Leonard. Within 10
minutes, a good run and pass by Philip McLaughlin set up Killian Deasy to
first-time it past Neil Quail into the MIdleton goal. Then before half-
time, Philip McLauglin took a Eoghan Kennedy pass and slipped it past the
Midleton keeper to put Quins in total control. Midleton nearly got back
into the game just before half-time, but the reverse stick shot came back
off Skinty's post.
No more goals in the second half, but mostly because of poor finishing rather
than the lack of chances. Both teams missed a number of good scoring chances,
but Quins were always in control of the game. So, Quins now qualify for
the Munster Junior Cup final where we'll meet our arch rivals Church of
Ireland II.
