Waterford the latest victims of Harlequins' goal machine
By Fred Treacy
CORK HARLEQUINS goal machine continued at pace at Harlequin Park on
Saturday when they scored yet another big win in the Munster Senior League Division 1.
On the receiving end this time were Waterford who suffered an 8-0 defeat as the Cork
side brought their league tally for the season to 29 from five matches played.
Harlequins were a class above Waterford and never looked like losing this
game once David Egner gave them the lead in the 15th minute, tucking home David Lombard’s
right wing cross at the far post. A John Hobbs goal from a 25th minute penalty corner made
it 2-0 before a fine run by Paul Lombard sent David Lombard in for the third in the 29th
minute. Another John Hobbs goal a minute later from a penalty corner sent Cork Harlequins 4-0 ahead at
half time.
Waterford keeper Donogh Gillhooley was outstanding as Harlequins piled
on the pressure. He was beaten twice in a minute early in the second half when in 39th
minute Richard Gash turned home David Egner’s cross and then John Hobbs completed his hat trick
from a penalty corner.
In the 50th minute Paul Lombard made it 7-0 following a penalty
corner and he completed the scoring on the stroke of full-time.
