Peard Cup Final

Saturday 8th January 2005

Scorers: D. Eakins, R. Gash

Failure to capitalise on chances created & a couple of very poor umpiring decisions resulted in a very disappointing reverse for Quins. Quins dominated possession in the first half & won the corner count 4 nil. There were also a few good opportunities from play but lack of sharpness in the finishing department proved very costly. Billy Lynch (CofI keeper) also pulled off a number of very good saves.

Eaks opened the scoring in the 46th minute with a well placed corner finish. Within a couple of minutes Richard's goal bound effort hit the only remaining defender - keeper was out of the play - & the umpire to everyone's amazement awarded a free out! A couple of minutes later Mark Black made an excellent save from a CofI corner but the inrushing Ken Twomey swept home the rebound. Shortly after this CofI took the lead with a well struck reverse stick drive from Ali Dunne. CofI increased the lead from a penalty stroke by David Hobbs awarded for a tackle by John Hobbs on Ali Dunne. With five minutes remaining Quins went on all out attack & scored through Richard Gash from a corner finish with two minutes remaining. Right on the final whistle Quins forced another corner but Billy Lynch got a touch to keep the ball out.
