Harlequins Ladies Hockey Match Report

Harlequins(3) 1 - Mallow(1) 3

Munster Division 3

Saturday 12th March 2005

Scorers: Aoife Turner

by David Egner

Harlequins started game strong pushing Mallow back from the first whistle. Despite playing only two up front as a positional change was required for Pamela Deacon to assist Orla Higgins (suffering from chest infection) in centre midfield, Quins had lots of possession and attacked at every opportunity. They were rewarded early on with a short corner but Eileen Collins's shot was saved by the defence. Mallow had a few scoring opportunity’s in the first half, but their corners weren't up to scratch and easily dealt with by the Quins defence. However, the Quins back four had their keeper Karen Olden to thank an more than one occasion as she pulled of a few top saves from shots heading towards the bottom corners in the half. Nevertheless, Quins broke the deadlock first after their third short corner. A neat interchange of passes at the top of the D between Orla and Eleanor Flood, who fed Aoife Turner who was unmarked at the spot, and she slapped the ball home.
