Irish Junior Cup Quarter Final
Saturday 29th January 2005
Scorers: R. O'Byrne, J. Chapple, J. O'Brien 2
On Saturday the 29th January the Harlequins 2nds took to the pitch to take on Dublin University (Trinity) in the quarter final of the Odlums Irish Junior Cup. The squad was - Amy O'Neill, Karen Olden. Ger Kehilly, Fran Doonan, Jayne O'Brien, Liz Kehilly, Dale Berkley, Gillian Mountjoy, Catherine Scriven, Emily Kenefick, Sarah Gembe, Rachel O'Byrne, Cliona O'Connor, Jane Chapple, Fiona Nestor, Fiona Higgins. On the sideline we were missing our usual technical team of Mark Black & Brian Hayes Curtin, however, we recruited the services of Alan O'Driscoll, Sue Barry & Mgt Sweeney - all of whom did a superb job - Thanks guys.
The match started with an early goal by Quins. A defensive error left Rachel O'Byrne to pick up the ball and have a free run at goal to score. This lead was not held by Quins as practically straight from the hit off DU worked there way to the Quins circle to score. Harlequins went ahead for the second time when Jayne O'Brien finished off a well worked short corner. Yet again Quins could not hold on to this lead and just before half time DU's Una Budd scored by lobbing keeper Amy O'Neill. Despites Amys best efforts she unfortunately wasnt able to keep the ball out. The score at the half time whistle was Quins 2 - DU 2.
The second half yet again saw quins go ahead for the third time when Sarah Gembe played a lovely ball from the left into the circle to Jane Chapple who touched the ball into the DU goal for Quins third goal. But yet again in this exciting game of hockey DU managed to fight back to make it three all and send the game to extra time.
In the first half of extra time with both teams giving it everything no goals were scored. It wasnt till the second half when things looked as if Quins were going to lose out. A debatible stroke was awarded to DU. But a brilliant save by Amy O'Neill who had read the stroke perfectly saved Quins. Then in the last few minutes Quins were awarded a short corner a rebound found its way back to Jayne O'Brien who made no mistake in scoring, put Quins through to the semi final of the Odlum Irish Junior Cup.

Quins II advance as O’Brien grabs late winner
HARLEQUINS II are through to the semi-final of the Odlums Irish Junior Womens Cup after a 4-3 win over Dublin University on Saturday at Harlequin Park.
In a great game of hockey it was end to end action as both sides had plenty of chances to win the game.
Jayne O’Brien was the hero when she got the winner with time running out and put them into the semi-final. Church of Ireland II were also in action, and despite playing some good hockey were on the wrong end of a 3-1 result against Loreto II.
