Harlequins Mens Hockey Match Report

Harlequins (A) 3 - Three Rock Rovers (A) 2

(Quins won 5-3 on Agg.)

Mens Irish Club Championship - Quarter Final

Saturday 24th April 2004

Quins qualified for the Club Championship Finals in UCD next weekend when getting the better of TRR in the last few minutes of a very exciting second leg in Harlequin Park. Quins, who were 2-1 up after the first leg, started very slowly & found themselves one down when Rovers scored from a corner after just six minutes. Quins were awarded a stroke mid way through the half when Eaks corner hit a defenders leg but following consultation by the umpires it was downgraded to a corner. The keeper made a fine save from the resultant corner. Eaks equalised in the last minute of the half with an unstoppable corner.

The second half began with both teams pressing for the lead goal. Quins should have taken the lead mid-way through the half when Eaks rounded the keeper but missed the target with a powerful drive. Play quickly switched to the other end and Wes pulled off a magnificent triple save. Shortly afterwards Rovers took the lead & levelled the match on aggregate from a short corner. With the match heading for extra time it took a fine goal from Paul Lombard to decide the issue. Taking Mark Black's pass on the run, he beat a defender at the top of the circle & scored with a powerful shot. In the final minute Eaks scored with another excellent corner finish.
