Harlequins Mens Hockey Match Report

Bandon (A) 1 - Harlequins (A) 4

(ht 1-2)

Munster Division 1 - Saturday 20th September 2003

A very encouraging start to the season by Harlequins. Despite the loss of a number of players since the end of last season & missing 3 more today due to holidays this was a first class performance. The game marked the first start on the team for Rob Hobbs & first team debuts for Lee d'Alton & Stephen Sweetnam. All 3 performed really well.

Quins began brightly & created a number of good scoring chance. Thanks to some fine defending by Bandon & Ian Hosford in particular the game was still scoreless after 15 minutes. Against the run of play Bandon took the lead after 18 minutes. Quins defense was very slow to react to a free hit & Chris Daunt was beaten from close range. The goal had a very good impact on Quins who played with a lot more purpose after this. The equaliser came after 28 minutes following a fine reverse stick shot from Johnta, when David Egner was on hand to touch home. Quins continued to press & took the lead on the half time whistle, went Eaks confidently finished a sharp corner move.

The second half was only 2 minutes old when 'the Touch' deflected a cross to the net for a superbly taken goal. The goal was at the end of a really good passing movement involving several players. Quins continued to attack & were rewarded 12 minutes from time from another corner move. David Egner was at the end of it & scored from very close range (it would have been easier if he'd scored first time, instead of passing to Jason!).
