Division 2 - 2Oth October 2002

Scorers: D. Deady 2, P. Dawson 2, E. Dempsey

New Water-based pitch played on at Quin's

It wasn't a downpour…nor a shower but a storm that greeted the players who played in the division 3 clash between Harlequins 3rds and Church of Ireland 4ths.

But after consultation with the Umpires, the game went ahead. It was Harlequins who took advantage of playing with the storm in the first half and played very well. They dominated mid-field right through to the forward line. It was a great to see Ivan Bateman playing, and he quickly got to grips with midfield and made surging runs through the C of I defence. Once the deadlock was broken with 15 minutes to go to the break, there was no stopping Quins.

Dave Deady scored the first and second, and then Paul Dawson scored the third. There was a collective sigh of relief when half time was called. The weather was still growling outside and inside the dugout, but the game soon restarted.

Quins picked up where they left off and used both wings to good use. Paul Dawson scored another and so did the skipper Eoghan Dempsy . With 55 minutes of the game gone, one of the C of I's players got injured and they decided to call a halt to the game and conceded. Fair play to anyone who played out in that weather. At least we got to play on a Quins water based pitch…Well, wishful thinking.
