Harlequins pressed strongly from the outset but found a very resolute Institute defence difficult to break down. The first goal was scored in the 26th minute from a short corner which was played into John Hobbs & he flicked it to the net beyond the advancing goalkeeper. In spite of sustained pressure this was the only goal of the first half.

Quins began the second half with a lot of pace & scored after 3 minutes when John Hobbs scored again from a short corner. John completed his hat trick in the 7th minute with another fine finish from a corner. The passing & movement throughout the team was very good at this stage & David Lombard got a well deserved goal after 16 minutes. Paul Lombard scored a superb goal when he deflected John Hobbs well struck pass to the roof of the net in the 26th minute. Edward Gash showed his goal scorers instincts to beat the keeper from close range in the 28th minute. The best team goal of the game came 4 minutes from time when Philip McLaughlin rebounded the ball off the keeper's pads following an excellent passing move.
