Harlequins Mens Hockey Match Report
Harlequins (A) 1 - Annadale (A) 2
Irish Club Championship - Quarter Final, First Leg
Saturday 12th April 2003
Scorer: P. Lombard
An Annadale winning goal in the last minute has left Quins with a mountain to climb in defence of the Irish Club Championship title. Annadale began quickly & scored from their first corner after 3 minutes. Quins responded
well to this early set back & really tested Annadale. From the first corner Eaks low drag flick found the goal. Amazingly & to everyone's surprise the umpire ruled that the ball was played inside the circle during the stick
stop & he disallowed the goal. Quins continued to apply the pressure & scored from the 3rd corner when Eaks pass was deflected to the goal by Paul Lombard. Annadale survived two more Quins corners & a couple of half chances
to leave the sides level at the half time break.
The second half was very tight with chances few & far between. John Hobbs & Jason combined to save an Annadale corner which seemed destined for the net. Quins had a couple of half chances from play but failed to make the most of them. A Quins attack in the final minute broke down & Annadale swept quickly from their own 25 to score with seconds remaining on the clock.
