Harlequins Mens Hockey Match Report
UCC (C) 1 - Harlequins (D) 3
(h.t. 1 - 2)
Division 3
18th December 2001
Scorers: M. O'Driscoll (2), D. Shine
With their captain missing, playing golf (!!!), the 4ths continued on their recent good form with a very good win at the Mardyke. UCC scored after two minutes, when a Quins defender attempted to run the ball out from his own circle, lost possession & UCC pounced to score. Quins enjoyed most of the possession but failed to score despite creating several good opportunities. Enter Mick O'Driscoll - Mick was late arriving & Manager Hugh Rothwell decided not to start him - 25 minutes into the game Quins equalised when David Shine scored with a tremendous strike from a short corner. 5 minutes later Mick touched a super cross from David Curtin past the UCC keeper.
Into the second half & Quins continued to press but with a combination of poor finishing & very good defending, failed to add to the lead. UCC continued to pose problems on the break & the result was in doubt unto the last 7 minutes. Then Mick forced the ball home from close range after the UCC keeper had again pulled off a fine save. That goal has Mick on 17 for the
season & he is the club's leading goal scorer.
