Harlequins Mens Hockey Match Report
Nothing Ventured.......
Bandon (A) 0 - Harlequins (A) 3
(h.t. 0 - 3)
Mens Munster Division 1
24th November 2001
Scorer: E. Gash (3)
Harlequins mens firsts, under the control of Stoney, as the other fellow was in
Ulster watching the senior interprovincials, continued their winning ways
on Saturday with a 3 goal victory. Harlequins welcomed back John Ahern to
the squad for this match against last years 3rd place finishers. The match
was rearranged for the Bandon as H'Quins was been used for the girls U -
16 interpros. Bandon had narrowly lost 3-1 to C of I the previous week so
were full of convidence coming into the game. Reports said that Bandon had
adopted a very defensive approach in the C of I match, it was expected to
have more of the same against H'Quins. Bandon didn't disappoint,
rarelytrying to attack, setting out to try and earn a point. A hat-trick
inside 15 mins by Edward Gash soon had the crowd questioning
their negative tactics. Harlequins goal was never threatened. Edgar Rice
impressed sporadically in the defence. In the second half Bandon continued
where they left off - deep in their 25. H'quins, however, failed to keep
the 1st half momentum going and despite many short corners failed to add
to the score. Richard Gash and David Eakins coming the closest to scoring.
It wasn't a great spectacle, H'Quins happy with the win without
suffering any injuries before the C of I match on Dec 15th, as for Bandon,
nothing ventured......
