About Us

Hockey Season 2007/2008

1st Team - The 1st team succeeded in their major objective by qualifying for the inaugural Irish Hockey League (IHL) which begins in 2008/2009. On the local front we finished as runners up to CofI in both the Munster Senior League and Cup. The team won the Peard Cup for the first time in a few seasons. At national level we were beaten by Lisnagarvey in the Irish Senior Cup quarter finals and in spite of very good performances in the Club Championships group stage we failed to make it to the semi finals.

2nd Team – The 2nd team showed up well in the Munster Senior League and again finished in the top 5. The team suffered a very unfortunate defeat on strokes to CoI 2nds in the Munster Junior Cup Final and bowed out in the early stages of the Irish Junior Cup.

3rd Team – The 3rd team consolidated their position in the 2nd Division and were very consistent throughout the season. A number of younger players established themselves on the team this season.

4th Team – Made up of mostly younger players this team had another very good season. They were coached superbly by Philip White throughout the season.

5th Team – Captained by Fitz Allen this team had a fantastic season and capped it off by winning the 4th Division League and Cup double.

Hockey Season 2006/2007

1st Team - The first team created history winning the European Cup Winners Trophy in Prague at Easter. In their 4th EHF tournament Quins won the final beating the Ukrainian side Kolos Sekvoia 4-1 in a penalty shoot out after the match finished in a 3 all draw. On the domestic front it was a case of so close yet so far – Quins were beaten in the Club Championships final, the Irish Senior Cup semi-final & finished runners-up in the Munster Senior League & Cup.

2nd Team - Irish Junior Cup runners up & finished in 5th position in the Munster Senior League Division 1. Winners of the Treaty Cup.

3rd Team - Finished in 4th position in Munster Senior League Division 2.

4th Team - Finished in 3rd place in Munster Senior League Division 3.

Hockey Season 2005/2006

It was the most successful season to date for our men's hockey section. The 1st team won the Irish Senior Cup for the first time in club history when they beat holders Lisnagarvey 2-1 in UCD on Sunday 19th March. They also retained the Munster Senior League (3 in a row) and the Munster Senior Cup (2 in a row). Our captain Jason Black became the first Munster player to represent Ireland on 100 occasions. Also, Jason & his brother Mark represented Ireland in the World Cup qualifiers in China.

2nd Team - Munster Junior Cup Winners

3rd Team - League Division 2 & McLean Cup Winners

4th Team - League Division 3 Winners

Harlequins have five mens hockey teams. The 1st team currently contains five full Irish International players in Wesley Bateman, Jason Black, Mark Black, Sean Nicholson & Paul Lombard

In the 2004/05 season, the 1sts won the Munster Senior League and Cup Double and competed in the Irish Club Championships. They also competed in the 2005 European Cup Winners Trophy in Vienna.
